An Introduction To...
The latest in Fruits de Mer Records' 'Introduction to' series features Nevada-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Jay Tausig; Jay's huge back-catalogue is reflective of his remarkable songwriting, vocal and instrumental range, from folk to progressive rock, psychedelia to synth, covers to original compositions. This set begins with a selection of Jay's contributions to Fruits de Mer Records over the years these are all covers (including Can, Nick Drake, Motorhead, Bowie, Pretty Things and Jethro Tull hard to believe they are all the work of one man!); disc 2 is Jay's selection of covers that haven't appeared on a Fruits de Mer label (from Judee Sill to Yes, Daevid Allen and Hawkwind!), disc 3 contains some of Jay's own shorter songs and disc 4 rounds things off with a compilation of his longer compositions. .I can't think of another musician who spans so many musical styles so effortlessly, but over to Jay with some thoughts about this collection "It has been quite a journey going through all of these recordings and choosing the material to be included. Having all of these songs in one place has never happened before. I am very grateful to Keith and Fruits de Mer Records for releasing this "introduction" and originally releasing all of the songs on disc one individually over the years, on the many compilation albums I've been lucky enough to be included in. This is a diverse collection, many of the songs on disc two have never been released before. Every one of these songs is special to me in one way or another and I'm grateful to be able to share them with you here.
