Giuffredi, Corrado & Federico Nicoletta
Puccini 100
"The nineteenth century in Italy, and not only in our country, is the century of paraphrases and transcriptions: the phenomenon can be explained, at least for our Peninsula, by the desire (which has become common practice) to transport into the living rooms the atmospheres and the thrills aroused by the world of melodrama, a dominant genre but difficult to reproduce within the domestic walls, even those noble palaces whose owners had enjoyed, especially in the eighteenth century, the privilege of owning a private orchestra. Michele Mangani offers us four transcriptions from Puccini's most famous operas: La Bohme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Nessun dorma from Turandot. In each of his paraphrases there will be the most important and famous themes of the opera interpreted in the album by the great clarinetist Corrado Giuffredi accompanied by Federico Nicoletta on the piano."
