Bassi, Lovreglio, Marriner, Barlow: Fantasies On ...

The pleasure of hearing and re-hearing ones favourite operatic themes, and the thrilling excitement of observing a virtuosos almost superhuman feats were combined in the nineteenth-century genre of the operatic fantasies. This album comprises clarinet works based on themes from Verdis opera, written by Luigi Bassi and Donato Lovreglio in the Romantic era, and by two English composers of our days (Andrew Marriner and Stephen Barlow). Their works bear witness to the continuing vitality of a genre which had been erroneously dismissed and disparaged, or deemed as surpassed, but which instead keeps blossoming to present day.
