Gioachino Rossini: Sonatas For Four I, Iii, V

This Da Vinci Classics album intrigues the listener by offering an insight into Gioachino Rossinis earliest known compositions, as well as into those written during his long absence from the musical scene. The Six "Sonate a Quattro" written by a not-yet-teenager composer during a three-day full immersion in composition are ripe with brilliant musical ideas and fascinating passages, even though their formal polish is not that usually found in coeval works of the classical tradition. Then, we are offered three pieces excerpted from the late collections known as Pchs de vieillesse. Two of them are interesting and poignant analyses of contemporaneous and "future" music, whereby Rossinis perceptiveness clearly individuates the cruxes and potential of "todays" and "tomorrows" music. The programme is completed by a posthumous homage paid by Rossini to his longtime friend and colleague Nicolò Paganini.
