Wilhelm, Mike
Rocks & Gravel
Mike Wilhelm was Americana before Americana was cool. As a founding member of the legendary San Francisco Charlatans, Mike Wilhelm, guitarist and vocalist, pioneered the exploration of America's music of its past. Blues, Folk & Jazz from the early 1900's to the then present day of the mid -960s. Mike and SteadyBoy Records owner/producer, Freddie Steady Krc, began their musical friendship in the late 1970s-early 1980s. Mike was playing with Flamin Groovies and Freddie was playing with Austin, TX-based power poppers, The Explosives. After Mike and Freddie completed a successful acoustic tour of Norther California and Nevada in the 1990s, Freddie got the idea to do a recording with Mike in Austin. Randy Poe came on board as co-producer with Freddie. They assembled a crack band including guests Maryann Price and Alejandro Escovedo and, in two days, cut this Americana offering titled Rocks & Gravel.
