Van Boeckel, Rik -meets The Dub Ark-
De Dromende Dansers
Inspired by Lee Scratch Perry and Linton Kwesi Johnson, poet/percussionist Rick van Boeckel joins forces with The Dub Ark collective and releases the Dutch-language dub reggae album "De Dromende Dansers". The Dub Ark consists of bassist Eric van Drunen Littel (aka Clever Lee), percussionist/dubmaster Aernout van Hees (aka Dr. EchopleX) and saxophonist Joep Smeenk (aka Ube da Dube). Eric van Drunen Littel is active in various bands and provided the base reggae music to Van Boeckel's poetry. Aernout van Hees is active as a percussionist in a number of bands playing Cuban and Antillean music. He has been a fan of Lee Perry's work since his teens and for many years he has been researching the studio techniques that form the basis of the work by Lee Perry and King Tubby. He has done the dub work for this album from the raw base tracks. Joep Smeenk is known from the Dutch 90's funk band Gotcha! The Dub Ark itself is a reference to Lee Perry's legendary Black Ark Studio in Kingston, Jamaica.
