Marcello Fera: Piccoli Arcani, Chamber Music 2003-2023
Composer and violinist Marcello Fera created this album starting from a recital for unaccompanied violin, written between 2020 and 2022. The genesis of this work, Canti dal silenzio ("Songs from Silence"), dates back to the coronavirus lockdowns, when the composer found a church where he could go and improvise. Other works in this album are inspired by the composers collaboration with poetess Roberta Dapunt and her voice. Still others involve the presence of a chamber ensemble (with various combinations of violin, cello, clarinet, and double bass), and are inspired by a variety of literary, philosophical, and sociological stimuli and promptings. Finally, there are two further works in which Fera reinterprets early music: in one case, inspired by Monteverdi, and in another, by Francesco Landini. The album is completed by a "sacred conversation", La sacra conversazione, a two-part dialogue between violin and cello, once more alluding to a poetic work by Dapunt. Together, these works bespeak their composers aesthetic and philosophical world, and his belief that music is just a moment in time, framed by two enormous wings of silence.
