Muzio Clementi: Piano Works

By placing the two Sonatas op. 34 beside the 12 Monferrine op. 49, this disc restores the deep unity of the pianistic art of Muzio Clementi. On one side stand large-scale design, quasi-concertante memory, contrapuntal energy and a conception of the piano as an orchestral organism/ on the other, the choreographic miniature, where a Piedmontese dance of popular origin is transfigured into an elegant laboratory of rhythm, balance and colour. Thus emerge the pedagogue of the Gradus ad Parnassum, the piano maker, the publisher and the European composer, all gathered within one lucid and long-reaching modernity.
