Alessandro Longo: Piano Studies (the Complete Set)
The complete recording of the Studies op. 35, op. 42 and op. 48 marks a decisive stage in the rediscovery of Alessandro Longo, a cardinal figure in Italian pianism between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Conceived around thirds, sixths and octaves, these cycles far exceed didactic purpose and stand as genuine sound-pictures, in which the severity of contrapuntal schooling engages with Mediterranean melodic sensibility and with echoes of Chopin, Czerny and the great keyboard tradition. Within the broader Progetto Longo, the release restores full dignity to a corpus of rare coherence, where pedagogy and poetry coincide in a single artistic ethic.
