Rigliaco, Giuseppe
Neapolitan Organ Works Of The 19th And 20th Century
This album restores to the Italian organ a memory wider than the monumental canon, interweaving theatre, devotion, popular song and modernity. M. Amanns Sinfonia, Mauro-Cottones Pastorale, Carlo Actons Cornamuse and Frontinis Canzone di montagna come from the Sant Agostino degli Scalzi musical collection in Aversas Diocesan Archive, comprising some two hundred manuscripts. Alessandro De Boniss Tre pezzi op. 14 lead to the orchestral conception of Rino Maiones Intonazione, Corale e Toccata op. 30. Mauro Castaldo then carries the journey into the present through mirror structures, timbral metamorphosis and spaces for improvisation. The Balbiani-Costamagna organ of San Lorenzo fuori le mura thus becomes a living archive where sacred, popular and contemporary idioms share a single root.
