Quartetto Indaco

F. Schubert, A. Webern, C. Carovani: Quartet No 15 D887

The recording artists of this Da Vinci Classics album are the laureates of the Osaka Chamber Festival, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. The Italian "Quartetto Indaco" made history with their victory: not only was it the first time an Italian Quartet won the top prize, along with two additional awards, but also the first time an Italian quartet was awarded the first prize at a WFIMC contest. <br>The programme includes Anton Weberns five movements for string quartet, op. 5, which are an elaboration of a poetic of drastic concentration of the musical material. Schuberts monumental Quartet no. 15 D 887, by way of contrast, expand the "atomic" music of Webern to cosmic size. It is Schuberts longest quartet ever, an extraordinary, prophetic work. The album is completed by a work by young composer Cosimo Carovani, who is also the Quartetto Indacos cellist. It is inspired by Schuberts poetic world while maintaining a distinctly contemporary approach.
