MichelAngelo Grancinis career took place mainly in Milan, in the seventeenth century, and he quickly became one of the foremost musicians in the city. His Novelli Fiori ecclesiastici ("New Church Flowers", 1643) is an anthology of pieces, laid out to satisfy any liturgical need, reflecting an ideal repertoire useful for specific services such as Mass and Divine Office. It comprises motets, psalms, Magnificats, a Mass and Marian Litanies; these are extraordinary works, which embody pure recitation and perfect eloquence. These magnificent pieces are interpreted by Nova Ars Cantandi led by its founder, Giovanni Acciai; this ensemble is one of the freshest and most original groups in todays Early Music scene, particularly admired for its excellent performances.
