Brahms, Bach, Reinecle, Scriabin, Godowsky: For The Left Hand
For the Left Hand explores left-hand piano writing as an autonomous poetics rather than a repertory of limitation. At its centre stands Bach's Chaconne in Brahms's realisation, conceived not as a transcription but as a study that recreates at the keyboard the tension of the violin original. Bach's Gavotte en rondeau appears through Rafael Joseffy's rare version, while Carl Reinecke's Sonata op. 179 in C minor unfolds a broad Romantic fresco. Scriabin's Prelude and Nocturne op. 9 arose from his temporary injury to the right hand/ Godowsky's Elegy and Prelude on the Name BACH unite grief, counterpoint and technical audacity. The apparent constraint becomes an enlargement of the instrument: one hand assumes the functions of orchestra, polyphony and poetic transfiguration.
