Mogavero, Andrea & Trio Quodlibet

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - 5 New Quartets

Along with the original four Flute Quartets composed by Mozart, there exist a small series of beautiful transcriptions after some Piano Sonatas by Mozart and his Oboe Quartet, arranged for the same ensemble (flute and string trio). The added value of these transcriptions is that they were made by Hoffmeister, who was a close friend of Mozart as well as one of his publishers, and a composer in his own right. Their concept, therefore, can be assumed to have pleased Mozart, not least because Hoffmeister was particularly appreciated as a composer of flute works. This Da Vinci Classics CD offers a fascinating panorama of these transcriptions, which are based on works which count among the best-loved Piano Sonatas by Mozart (including the celebrated Sonata KV 331, which closes with Alla Turca). Listeners will appreciate the beautiful blend of timbre between the strings and the flute, but also the clever transcriptions, which succeed in putting all instruments, as well as the original works, in the best possible light.
