Barbard's Fables: Works For Solo Guitar By Latin Ameris
This Da Vinci Classics album borrows its name from a composition by Sergio Assad, recorded here in world premiere. It is accompanied by another work by Assad, equally presented here for the first time (Sun Wukongs Toccata), and by pieces for solo guitar by other Latin American composers. Among them are Egberto Gismonti, represented here by his Memoria e Fado, and by his Palhao, and Ronaldo Miranda, with his Apassionata. Along with these composers, all born between 1947 and 1952, this album includes four pieces by one of the great guitar masters of the past, Agustin Barrios Mangor: the colourful Una Limosna por el Amor de Dios is juxtaposed to one of his Preludes, to Choro da Saudade (a quintessentially nostalgic Brazilian piece), and to Las Abejas. The solo guitarist is Thanos Mitsalas.
