Meyers, Augie
Simply.augie
In 1964, Augie Meyers had the first Vox organ in the US. He used it to memorable effect as part of the Sir Douglas Quintets Shes About A Mover and thus created the Augie Meyers sound---instantly identifiable, often imitated but never duplicated. With his Quintet career and later The Texas Tornados, that sound endures along with guest appearances on releases by Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, The Mavericks and countless others. With Simply.Augie, he turns the notion of that sound upside down by deftly playing piano in a fashion hes not previously been associated with. This new album has no drums, no bass, no guitar.but it does have strings and deeply personal songs about love, life and death. At 81, Augie surprises everyone with a new sound.
