This remarkable production comprises three versions of the story of Cassandra, the daughter of the Trojan king Priam who had the gift of unfailing prophecy, but the curse of being constantly unheeded. The first version is by the Venetian nobleman Benedetto Marcello, set to a libretto he had purposefully commissioned to Antonio Conti with the requirement that it could feature a single singer. The second version employs the same libretto, but was written by one of Johann Sebastian Bachs sons, Johann Christoph Friedrich. The third version is by contemporary living composer Rossella Spinosa, who turns her attention to the lyrics by Greek poet Lycophron (Alexandra) and seeks in turn a dialogue between antiquity and modernity.
