Corelli: Opera Quinta - The First Six Sonatas In An Eighteenth-centurn
This world-premiere recording presents six Sonatas of Corellis Opera Quinta in the eighteenth-century transcription for recorder and basso continuo preserved in manuscript Sanv. D. 4/II at the Biblioteca Palatina in Parma. Owned by the Lucchese patrician Paolo Antonio Parensi, it is the only complete source of the adaptation now known. Transpositions, rewritten cadences and omissions of fugal movements unsuited to monody reveal a creative practice converting violinistic density into linear eloquence. For the slow movements transmitted without written embellishments, ornamentation is reconstructed from models in other volumes of the Parensi collection. The project thus illuminates the mobility of Baroque repertory and the fertile permeability of instruments, notation and domestic practice.
