Sebastian Kiefer, aka Huck Blues, had originally considered these songs as a collection for his band Diving For Sunken Treasure. After about two years of labor the result was a raw and untypically candid album. In 13 songs, Huck Blues tells compositionally complex stories, with a remarkable instrumental variety, stylistic attention to detail and technical perfectionism. Ranging from quiet, gentle, almost balladesque, to orchestral size - sometimes even within a single song. Sebastian creates a dense atmosphere with the near-dozen instruments, most of which he himself has mastered and recorded for the album. And were it not his voice- let us call it a whim of nature: deep, rough to smoky, strong as well as delicate- one would have to speak of a remarkable instrumentalist. However, Huck Blues bowes to greats like Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits, sometimes reminiscent of Calexico, Beirut or Bob Seger. Huck Blues doesnt fit neatly into any category, instead its always inspired and inspiring.
