Ferdinand Rebay: Chamber Music With Guitar Vol. 1
First in a three-volume project, this release restores Ferdinand Rebays chamber music with guitar through manuscripts acquired in 2016 from the archive of Heiligenkreuz Abbey, including unpublished and previously unrecorded works. The rare Septett, the Sonate in D major, the Kleine spanische Rhapsodie, and the Drei kleine St reveal how the guitar enters an equal dialogue with wind instruments, relinquishing every ancillary role. Rooted in Viennese Hausmusik and in the twentieth-century guitar revival fostered by Jakob Ortner, Rebays writing grants the instrument the formal dignity of the Austro-German sonata, uniting counterpoint, song, and structural thought. A secluded yet essential repertory emerges, reconciling domestic intimacy with chamber ambition in a modern musical humanism.
