Joseph Haydn: The Seven Last Words Of Our Saviour ...
Haydn wrote the Sonatas collectively known as The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross following a commission by the Cathedral Chapter of Cadiz, in Spain, in 1786. Given the works great success, he personally transcribed the original orchestral version for string quartet, and later transformed it into an Oratorio; he also approved an anonymous keyboard version. Taking inspiration from the latter and from the string quartet version, the performers of this Da Vinci Classics CD realized a version for modern violin and piano, taking into account the idiomatic traits of their instruments, and the details of Haydns writing.
