Johann Sebastian Bach: The Aroma Of A Pale Rose, Organr

This highly original album features some of Bachs masterpieces for the organ, which have in common the same key, i.e. the melancholy C minor. Due to the unequal temperament in use at Bachs time, each key had an individual "personality" and sound. This was also said to possess a particular "affection", a "mood", which could also be understood in visual or olfactory terms. Therefore, amateur flautist and physician Justus Johannes Heinrich Ribock, who was for some years a contemporary of Bach, qualified the key of C minor as having "the aroma of a pale rose". This album, which includes well-known works such as the Prelude and Fugue BWV 546, the Fantasia and Fugue BWV 537, two Chorales from Clavier-III, besides two further Fugues (BWV 547B and BWV 575), a Trio (BWV 5858) and a Passacaglia (BWV 582) is therefore an invitation to the listener to experience the faint, delicate scent of a suggestive musical key.
