Bellatti, Rodolfo
17th & 18th Century Organ Toccatas, Sonatas And Canzons
The libraries of Italian Conservatories are always full of surprises and hidden gems. This is the case with that of Genoa, where a manuscript is found with an enchanting variety of organ works from the Baroque era. It is written in the Italian keyboard tablature style, and it is one of the very few manuscript sources of organ music to have been performed on Ligurian school instruments. It has been surmised that this compilation may have been collected in a convent; it features works from the Roman school, many anonymous pieces, and others attributed to Candriano, Alessandro Scarlatti and Handel. A selection from this manuscript, comprising Toccatas, Sonatas, and Canzonas, has been recorded here.
