Aho Ssan

The Sun Turned Black

Aho Ssan is the stage name of Désiré Niamké, a Paris-based composer and electronic musician who has established himself over the past decade as a key figure at the crossroads of experimental electronic music, sound research, and contemporary composition. His discography includes Simulacrum (Subtext, 2020), Limen with KMRU (2022), and Rhizomes (Other People, 2023) featuring Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, and clipping. He has performed at Lincoln Center (NYC), Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam), Kraków Philharmonic, Atonal Berlin, CTM, Rewire, and Sonic Acts and recently opened for Autechre at Le Trianon (Paris, 2024). On April 11 he opens for Caterina Barbieri at the Philharmonie de Paris. The Sun Turned Black is rooted in field recordings gathered during a trip to Ghana, Aho Ssan's ancestral homeland. Built around a sonic dialogue with internationally acclaimed violinist ASIA, with all percussive elements deliberately excluded, the album occupies a unique space between ambient, noise, and electroacoustic music.
