Legendary album series by the exceptional Portuguese artist and freedom fighter Jose Afonso, who is one of the most stylish and influential singers and composers in Portugal. "Fados De Coimbra E Outras Cancoes" (1981) is released completely remastered for the first time by Soundgarden Hamburg as CD and LP on May 5. Jose Afonso, who is also known as Zeca Afonso or simply Zeca, was born in Portugal in 1929 due to the role of his music became an icon in the resistance against the dictatorial Estado Novo regime. His song "Grandola, Vila Morena", which was officially banned in Portugal at the time, was used as the starting signal for the peaceful Carnation Revolution in 1974 and was broadcast on the radio on the night of April 25th to signal the Movimento das Foras Armadas (MFA) to oppose it to raise the dictatorship. In the following years, over 15 albums were released, Afonso played all over the world and is still considered a pioneering activist for human rights and against political oppression. "Fados De Coimbra E Outras Cancoes" is a showcase of his own songs and his own interpretations of traditional pieces, which he dedicated to his father and his friend Portuguese singer Edmundo de Bettencourt.
