Wanloo, Lisa
Shadows
Emerging indie artist Lisa Wanloo has gone through a period of contemplation and clarity in recent years. She fearlessly explores her feelings and expresses them in no-frills music in a way that will leave few listeners unmoved. Wanloo creates a grand, dark scene in her songs, paired with something fragile that pokes beautifully within. Influenced by the darker varieties of the Americana and singer-songwriter traditions, as well as her lifelong love of grunge music, Wanloo writes her music from the bottom of her heart. This is reminiscent of the great Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten in both approach and delivery. Her three-track single released in 2018 showcased her first songs ever written; at the time in a more traditional singer-songwriter form. She then embarked on a quest for her individual expression and now she is ready to release her debut album "Shadows". The Reeperbahn Festival, where Lisa Wanloo was a guest in 2021, writes of the singer's "improbable expressiveness". Even if the basic tenor is always characterised by a sensual darkness, her music can offer hope in bleak moments of life. Wanloo is a "young artist of inestimable value for the present".
