Vladimir & Kalafat
Riva Degli Schiavoni
Kalafat (ital. calafato) is the common word in Dalmatia for the master shipwright, the one who performed the final work on the boat, watering the hull with hemp, and thus securing the durability of the boat while at sea. The most prominent, and the most sophisticated kalafats in Venice were people from Dalmatia, the so-called Schiavoni (which literally means Slavs) who settled in a part of the city east of San Marco, and the famous promenade (Riva Degli Schiavoni). From these various cultural influences, anchoring on the banks of the Dalmatian and East coast, the traditional music of Dalmatia was reinterpreted in the musical vision of the ensemble.
