Varona, Cary Rosa
El Desliz
On the first album by cellist Cary Rosa Varona, the instrumental predominates. This was intended to highlight the cello's abilities as a soloist, something common in classical music, but less so in other genres, such as popular music and jazz. The young performer is backed up by her extensive experience in various ensembles, groups and shows, in which she has developed her versatility. From the beginning, she set out to incorporate the cello into flamenco or jazz, both as a soloist and as an accompanist, similar to a double bass, or using it as a percussion instrument, like another drum. Her aim is to go beyond the normative boundaries of the instrument, to integrate it into formations where it seemed impossible to do so. Each track on this album is a journey into new musical dimensions. Cary Rosa offers us an unprecedented synthesis of rhythm and geography. It is a classical album as well as jazz, flamenco and Cuban.
