Mayas, Revelation D'un Temps Sans Fin
To coincide with the exhibition "Mayas, Revelation of an Endless Time", FrEmeaux & AssociEs and the Quai Branly Museum are to make available again a series of field-recordings carried out onsite in Mexico, not only among the Maya population but also the Totonac and Cora peoples. From the late Sixties to the early Seventies, FranCois Jouffa and Serge Roterman set up several expeditions to Latin America to record popular and religious music forms. The art of music captured here shows a collective, functional, and also esoteric and sacred, character. Forty years after the event, these recordings are exceptionally well-preserved; they bear witness to a tradition and incorporeal heritage handed down orally over centuries, and whose great representatives are now gone.
