Joe Sachse & Ernst Bier "There is a child hidden in the man which wants to play ..." (Friedrich Nietzsche) . Seen in this light, jazz musicians are perhaps 'real' men, because playing with the material is one of the most intrinsic attributes of what they do. While the majority of consumers are happy if the piece sounds exactly as they know it and are satisfied with it, Ernst Bier and Joe Sachse, through their dangerous playing (that they call improvisation), are going into off-beat criminal realms of unhealthy individualism. As the great Gerhard Polt said: "In democracy, no one is forced into a minority. Everyone has the freedom to join the majority." And to conclude with Kurt Tucholsky: "There is a child hidden in the man which wants to play", he quoted Friedrich Nietzsche. "I have children all by myself", Lottchen replied when he held the quote up to her.
