Transorient Express

The Orient Express stopped running long ago but in music it is picking up speed again. On "Transorient Express", the Transorient Orchestra from Germany's eastern Ruhr region weaves dense rhythmic textures of jazz together with Eastern grooves, Arabic melodies, Persian colours and echoes of Balkan, rock and folk. Ney, oud, santur, kopuz and darbuka meet horns, guitar, violin and a double drum set. The centrepiece is the Transorient Suite, recorded here in full for the first time and bound for distant Isfahan. A true ensemble of soloists on a journey that, for all its diversity, never leaves the tracks.
