Django Celebration #01
Born from an initiative by double bassist William Brunard, who serves as artistic director, the "Django Celebration" project aims to celebrate the legacy of Django Reinhardt through a series of intergenerational encounters between a recognized figure of this music and a rising figure or a figure of the new generation. To achieve this, Label Ouest and the Sunset-Sunside, a famous Parisian jazz club, are joining forces, inviting "the crème de la crème" of gypsy guitar, all generations combined. The two soloists who inaugurate this collection, which should take us until 2028 (the 75th anniversary of Django's death), are unanimously acclaimed by aficionados of this music and beyond. Stochelo Rosenberg has been one of the two or three major figures in international gypsy guitar for several decades. As for Rocky Gresset, his regular collaboration with Thomas Dutronc, on stage and in the studio, gives him a very solid experience, as do his encounters with some of the biggest names in French jazz (Louis Winsberg, Eric Legnini, etc.). The two musicians possess a common quality that unites them for the best: elegance. Elegance of playing, phrasing, sensitivity, and emotion, which are the subject, in both of them, of supreme refinement in expression. This combination gives their music a depth and a very specific character, whatever the repertoire they cover, whether it be standards, Django staples, or personal compositions.
