Plande, Eric -& Barre Phillips-
Breath Of Time
Eric PlandE and Barre Phillips, belonging to different generations of musicians, improvise freely and jointly, and they call the result quite delicately ,Breath of Time as a running title. The music is subdivided in 13 parts, and in the sixth part this running title is used as a heading again. In the first part Eric Plande opens the door with a rising fifth and Barre Phillips follows with his resonant double bass politely and with dignity. And at the very end the musical interplay is closed by a descending fifth. This outcome may have evolved inadvertently. For Eric Plande and Barre Phillips the breath of time has not to be structured by rhythm, they just get along their way. They create shared paths on multiple levels that, although being close or sometimes even intertwined, always remain integer. And the 13 parts do not stem from a retroactive arrangement, they result from beginnings, endings and new segments found together. They emerge from the creative process over time. Hans-Jurgen Linke
