Oh, Manhattan
Spiritual Warfare
"OH, MANHATTAN is one of the most evolved-sounding post-hardcore acts Indianola Records has ever put out. For their latest release, OH, MANHATTAN has returned from a self-released EP with a few handy tricks up their sleeve. Rather than just bellow into the microphone and throw in some soaring high-pitched vocals (as do many bands of this genre lately), these guys do something more expansive and interesting. Spiritual Warfare stands out greatly thanks to the exceptional writing that went into it. Some of the bridges and breakdowns here a purely epic sounding and the instrumental variety is impressive. Its not that the band necessarily brought in orchestral stuff, but that they explore a bevy of styles. Whether its something more atmospheric ("Ian Curtis") or bizarre and electronic ("Interlude"), OH, MANHATTAN surprises and reels the listener in with this record. Rather than being just straightforward, Spiritual Warfare has several layers to it, making it all the more worthy of an audience. The bands ability to be downright explosive one moment, then beautiful and melodic the next is quite impressive. One of the most well-rounded tracks, "Guilty Blessings Pt. II," uses this formula best with its southern metal-like verse, and soaring yet sorrowful chorus. Boasting a variety of styles, all of which are performed excellently, Spiritual Warfare is the debut full-length OH, MANHATTAN needed to be put at the top of the game." - Outburn Magazine
