Nobi is the quartet led by flutist, improviser and composer Fanny Menegoz since 2017. The music explored by this group stems on the one hand from her interest in conceptual music such as that of Magic Malik, with whom she worked for three years and with whom she continues to play as part of La Fanfare XP, or Steve Lehman, with whom she worked as part of the creation of the ONJ Ex Machina; on the other hand, from her musical culture borrowed from traditional music of various origins, from West Africa, Eastern Europe, Runion Island, etc.... And finally the heritage of jazz and improvised music, from American giants such as Coltrane, Miles Davis and Paul Motian, to more recent musicians such as Benoit Delbecq, Jozef Dumoulin and Craig Taborn... For this new opus, Nobi once again raises the question of freedom in music: between formal writing and free improvisation, these four musicians construct a carefully defined framework, the better to circumvent it.
