Yangon Calling
Yangon Calling - Music, Subculture, and Politics in Myanmar. The combined book (complete bilingual english/german) and documentary provides a first comprehensive account of the music scene and subculture in Myanmar (the former Burma). Until recently, the Southeast Asian country was ruled by a military government and was one of the world's most isolated nations. Book and film are bilingual in English and German. The authors, photographers and filmmakers of Yangon Calling, Alexander Dluzak, Carsten Piefke and Matt Grace, visited illegal punk concerts, met Burmese hip-hop pioneers, the country's first girl group and accompanied graffiti crews in their forays. The book contains many reports, interviews, essays as well as numerous pictures. The award-winning documentary film Yangon Calling about the Burmese punk scene is presented here for the first time as DVD. Speakers are MTV legend Steve Blame and Bela B. of the German punk band Die Artze.
