Bestia
A film about madness. And the obsessive music of Andrzej Korzy?ski, combining diabolic motifs of flutes, distorted guitars, and synthesizers with bucolic imagery for a string orchestra. A phenomenal soundtrack that encapsulates the composers artistic explorations of the 1970s. Although the film itself is somewhat forgotten today, the music is among the most important in Andrzej Korzy?ski's oeuvre, according to the composer himself. "Bestia" ("The Beast") sums up the entire 1970s, showcasing the composers classical inspirations (Mahler!) and his continuous quest for new colors and harmonies with contemporary instruments. Anxiety and horror, pauses filled with uncertainty, diabolic flute, and distorted guitar-all these are present in the opening piece "W mroku." The soundtrack features numerous variations of these terrifying motifs, filled with the sonic magma of synthesizers and percussion, but also completely different, almost idyllic pieces arranged for orchestra. There is even a spooky waltz! "Bestia" is being released on CD for the first time, remastered from the original tapes from the composers archive. The booklet includes an extensive essay on the film and its music, posters, stills, and photos of the tapes.
