Komeda, Krzysztof Quintet

Live In Praha 1964

The previously unreleased live recording of Krzysztof Komeda Quintets performances on the first jazz festival in Prague in 1964. A significant, meaningful point in jazz creation of the legendary pianist and composer is now released on a disc, over a half of a century after having been recorded. And it still delights. In Prague, Krzysztof Komeda managed to be accepted highly enthusiastically. Either way, his Quintet used to perform on an extremely high level, electrifying the audience gathered at Lucerna Hall in Prague. The energy of the rhythm section of Ostaszewski - Barkowski, as well as unusual concord of Stanko and Urbaniak, provide a unique expression of the music. Similarly do the extraordinary, memorable melodic material and bold improvisations based on it. It is no wonder that the Czechs, having listened to the frantic version of "Roman Two," the captivating "Sophias Tune," or the expanded version of "Svantetic" that lasts nearly twenty minutes, froze in a true delight. Krzysztof Komeda Quintets records from the first International Jazz Festival in Prague were remastered by Andrzej Poniatowski, from the original tapes deriving from Cesky Rozhlass archives
