Kinki Boys
Jugando Sucio
"JUGANDO SUCIO" is the third installment in Kinki Boys' trilogy of EPs. As with the previous EPs, the band effortlessly shifts from darkness or innovation to gritty, raucous rock 'n' roll swagger. Clearly operating in no-man's-land, they defy easy categorization. This presents both a challenge and an advantage: they are truly unique in what they do. AMALUR: Pure immediacy and frenetic rhythmbordering on punk without quite being itfeaturing a finale that shifts into a more tribal mode. For the first time, the band incorporates Basque into their songs; it is a bilingual track featuring dual vocals. SUPERVIVIENTE: The second track on Side A is a rock 'n' roll number very much in the vein of Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers. It features a jittery guitar riff riding over the rhythm section, accompanied by Vila's gritty lyrics drawn from his experiences with substance abuse. JUGANDO SUCIO: With this song, we explore styles that lie outside our usual framework. "Jugando sucio" is the EP's boldest track in every respect. EL REY: A critique of typical rockstar attitudes, without targeting anyone in particular. The song also steps away from the band's usual style, drawing directly from Nordic rock 'n' rollreminiscent of The Hellacopters or Backyard Babiesand serving as the perfect finishing touch to a record that is solid through and through. All tracks were recorded at Submarino Records and mastered at Ultramarinos Studios, featuring the same lineup: a trio consisting of Marga Alday (vocals and bass), Vila Berenguer (vocals and drums), and Mikel G. Mancho (guitars and backing vocals).
