At its core, GUITAR&B has flashes of hit R&B music and is conceptual at times with clever reoccurring themes throughout the tracks. You absolutely MUST listen to this with headphones to fully appreciate the stereo environment that Hayes has created. The Welcome track hits you hard in the feels and lets the listener know they're in for an emotional ride and by the time the album reaches 100 Other Times we really get a feel for the dark-side of his creative spirit. The song Discovery Divine is affectionately to dedicated to Steve Vai who personally helped Mick harvest the infectious melody and you can hear his influence more than once throughout the duration of the album. GUITAR&B finishes strong with a hooky dance track called Master of Disguises which slips into a stereo panning - manic battle between multiple guitars & analog synths as a way to return the listener back to where they came from and cinematically ends with the echoes of goodbye from Divided Heart. GUITAR&B delivers exactly what the title implies, guitar in the forefront of great R&B music that's both rhythmic and bluesy...we mustn't forget that!
