Originally available only as a mail order bonus, Near the Edge of the Penny Jar Spill is now being made available widely. The 40 pieces find Greenberger in a wide variety of settings and the recordings are a bracing mix of live, outtakes and rarities. Among the Dozens appearing with him are Yo La Tengo, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, Paul Cebar, Sean Slade, David Hidalgo & Louie Perez of Los Lobos, and The Coctails. Most of the tracks are from the past fifteen years, but the earliest one dates back to 1970 when Greenberger was sixteen and recorded the first of his spoken word with music pieces.
