Golden Gate Quartet, The
Dvd Live A Vienne - Last European Tour
We immediately recognize the sounds of this vocal ensemble which calls to mind the entire history of Black music. The sound of the Golden Gate Quartet is a School of Music in itself, with its unique treatment, based on four voices - the formula of Orlandus Wilson dating back to 1934. Almost 75 years later, for its international farewell tour, the Golden Gate Quartet still includes Paul Brembly (Orlandus Wilson's nephew) and Clyde Wright, the ensemble's tenor since 1954. It is therefore only natural that the producer of the Golden Gate concerts and FrEmeaux & AssociEs reunite for this DVD which features a recent concert in the famous Vienne amphitheatre (Rhone-Alpes). All the titles portraying the Old Testament are presented, using varying styles - Negro Spiritual, Gospel and sometimes even Rap! With the precision, sublime harmony, baritone rhythm and the know-how of the world's best-known Gospel group, we can indulge in the generous music of the Black American people.
