Faeth, Michael
My Brother's Equations
Michael Faeth is a drummer and musician from Fresno, CA. In the 1990's he was drummer for the Seattle/Portland quartet Jessamine and they recorded two full length albums on Kranky Records and a 7" single on Sub Pop. They toured nationally, performed at the CMJ Music Festival in New York and the Bumbershoot Arts Festival in Seattle, and shared the stage with the likes of Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, Hovercraft, and The Flaming Lips. In 2000, he played drums on tour with the Louisville quintet The For Carnation playing shows across the US. They also played shows in England including All Tomorrow's Parties and shared the stage with The Group (alias of Stereolab) and Shellac. Since then he has played drums with the local Fresno groups Buzzbomb, Atoms Are Aliens, and Llama Boy, played percussion with the Fresno City College Community Orchestra, played in the rock-n-roll choir Hearts on Fire, and played "in the pit" for three theater productions: The Fantasticks, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Hair. He has also self-released three full-length albums of his own, including his latest work My Brother's Equations in January 2022. Sounds like: Foster The People, Eels, The Shins The songs on the new record were written in and around central California near the rural countryside and foothills of Prather, in the urban neighborhoods of Fresno, and at the quiet coastal city of Cambria. Produced by Michael Faeth, they were recorded in a mix of home and professional studios located in the USA in Prather, Fresno, and Los Angeles, CA, and in Kyiv, Ukraine. The final mastering was done by renowned mastering engineer Gene Grimaldi (Sting, Lady Gaga, Johnny Cash) at Oasis Mastering in Burbank, CA. The songs are ordered in a classic album structure of Side A and Side B. On each side the format is mirrored with the first three songs being lyrical, the fourth being an ambient and meditative instrumental, and the fifth track being composed with exuberant and rhythmic drums only.
