EUROTEURO's new album, "Magic," represents a musical reorientation, moving between New Wave, Art Pop, and Neue Deutsche Welle. It's a sound that defies categorization yet maintains its clear form. The Viennese project, spearheaded by Peter T., presents its darker side. The lyrics are partly in German and partly in English; English allows for a more abstract approach because it's not their native language, thus retaining a touch of the fantastical. German, on the other hand, lends itself better to clear statements, direct messages, and subversive slogans within the Euroteuro universe. Following their previous "Volume" releases, which functioned more as singles collections, "Magic" stands as their first cohesive album. It was created through a collaborative process involving musicians such as Alexander Kranabetter, Topsy Turvy, Katarina Maria Trenk, Soap&Skin, Farce, Voodoo Jürgens, and Elisa Mory. "Magic" is a night album. It transports the listener to an inner space that shifts throughout the songs. It begins in a rather sparse space, a self looking around, taking stock. Over time, this space transforms, becoming denser, more multifaceted. Hedonism is outside. So is the rejection of self-optimization. Euroteuro turns 10, and at its core lies the question of why we must die and what will happen afterward. The gaze is turned inward. Euroteuro journeys between disorientation and euphoria, through a night that never ends. "Magic," the soundtrack to this nocturnal odyssey, is both beautiful and unsettling. The album artwork follows suit, psychedelic, beautiful yet menacing, carrying within it a sense of sorrow and alluding to the cycle of birth and death. The oil painting already existed; the artist Ramsko brought it to the studio, where it immediately resonated with the music.
