El Malek, David
Travelling
Rare enough, this album wasnt premeditated. The opportunity to return in studio for a week, offered without any constraint or imperatives of any kind, resulted in something new which probably never have seen the light of day. Freed of these contingencies, the musicians were able to abandon themselves to the time offered. A time that David El Malek used to bring back melodies that he has always carried inside him and that he wanted to dress up in a new light with his trio formula of flugelhorn, saxophone, piano trio. In this inner journey, he definitively frees himself from his role of jazz improviser to take on the role of the singer, of the classical interpreter, who seeks the accuracy of expression, who seeks the ultimate evocation, bewitched by sound, space and silence. After ten years of absence, David El Malek returns with a record that is foreign o any idea of performance. It is the album of maturity.
