Dissimilar South
Tricky Things
Tricky Things" is the debut album from folk inspired NC indie band Dissimilar South. The work encompasses a range of emotional and musical dynamics that may have the listener dancing around their living room (Track 1, Midnight), sinking into an atmospheric reflection on relationships (Track 4, Baby Blues) or psyching oneself up to finally 'let the f*$& go' (Track 9, Letting Go). While steeped in the rich musical traditions of North Carolina, the queer duo at the helm of this project are putting aside mandolins and banjos, and delivering punchy pop hits that might remind the listener of women/queer-led indie from days past and present. Reaching new levels in their creative collaboration, Maddie Fisher and Carter Hodge have learned to hold and work with each others' songs as their own, bringing out the craft and aliveness of each track. The album was produced by Grammy nominated Jason Richmond, and is made all the better by the musical contributions of Alex Bingham, Joe Westerlund, Joseph Terrell, and Joe MacPhail.
