Dalaras, Georges
The Greek Spirit
Greek singer with a sense of history. As one of his country's most popular musical exports, Dalaras (Piraeus 1949) introduces rembetiko to a new generation. This pre-war "poor man's music" is revived by Dalaras and his contemporaries in the 1970s. In addition, Dalaras plays various styles, both Greek and international material. This earns him star status in his own country. He records a duet with Sting and also collaborates with Bruce Springsteen, Dulce Pontes and the English prog band Jethro Tull.
