Cocanha
Puput
Cants polifonics a danar.Words, voices that perch, buzz, engage bodies in the dance. Cocanha projects resonant voices carried by the pulsation of the Pyrenean stringed-drum, feet and hands. The Occitan language is our playground to explore unique temperaments and sounds.Cocanha draws on the traditional Occitan repertoire, puts the archives in motion and puts them back in the thread of orality. Some words are rewritten, others invented, emanating from a common imaginary. The characters of the songs re-appropriate their desiring power and affirm it.Puput, what a strange bird name. So is called our next album: it is the Occitan name of the hoopoe, this bird with long beak gracefully arched, with an erectile crest, a harlequin back and a jerky and leaping flight. We chose it for his subversive strength. It questions our misogyny and our connection to the social norm.In a centralist French state with a pregnant colonial past, forbidding vernacular languages and standardizing accents, Cocanha chooses to sing in Occitan. We chose to produce this disc with RaRefree: recognized producer, guitarist and composer (Rosala, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Nio of Elche, Slvia Prez Cruz ...). We team up with Refree, a daring experimenter who has captured the finesse and intensity of Cocanha's music.
