Taken from Bob Clic Facebook web; Ok, here's some important news for any and all friends, fans and family of The Lewd! About six months ago I was contacted by Mike from the band the Safety Pins. They wanted to record a tribute to both our late singer J Satz Beret and our bass player Olga de Volga. They wanted to record the whole LP "American Wino" but they were wondering if I would play guitar on it with them. I thought about it a while, we haven't done a proper memorial show for Satz or Olga, mainly because the idea of playing a set of Lewd songs without Satz just doesn't appeal to me. So I've been avoiding it whenever the subject comes up. And it has come up several times. But this sounded different to me, maybe it would be nice to play all the songs from our first album, and playing them with a band who are Lewd fans themselves well, fuck yea, I'm in! I'd met the Safety Pins before, when I was on tour in Basque Country with the Rubber City Rebels they opened for us in Bilbao. That night I joined them onstage for two Lewd songs so I knew they would play the songs right, with the energy and power they deserve. Now Satz has been gone for a couple years already and I haven't played Lewd songs since my last live show with them. I'm rusty as hell when it comes to fast punk rock, and I haven't played Olga's song "Magnetic Heart" since 1982! I had to start practicing seriously at that point. About four months of hard practice on both the songs and on my ability to consistently play muted down strokes like the songs require. And boy did I need the practice! Then in March of 2026 Mike sent me the basic tracks of all the songs to take down to my brother Buzz who was very happy to engineer and record my parts for the project. There I was in Los Angeles again, re-recording pretty much the exact same parts I played at Mystic Sound in Hollywood in 1981. I used the exact same 62 Les Paul jr I played on the original. I didn't update anything, I didn't try to modernize or pretty anything up at all. Just blew through the songs as closely as possible to what the old band would have expected me to do. Then I sent my tracks back to Spain so Mike could finish up recording vocals and mixing and putting the cover art together. So here we are, with a new record coming out in a matter of a few weeks or so and I couldn't be happier with how it came out. It's really fast and super strong sounding and I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it. I'd like to thank everybody in the Safety Pins (special shout out to the girls who sang all of Olga's parts) for giving me this opportunity to both revisit our first album and honor the memory of both my friends Olga and Satz, without whom none of this would ever have been possible. We've recorded the complete "American Wino" album in the same order as it was originally released and also included two more bonus songs. Here is our new version of "Justice/Liberty", the theme song from one of the Lewd/Sideshow films, Justice for Jennifer. We've found a record label to release it so I'll be posting a link to it just as soon as it's ready to be released! Stay tuned!
