Circus

Circus (remastered)

A progressive rock legend from Switzerland. The debut album from 1976, where the musicians traverse not always obvious musical terrains, equipped with unconventional instruments. For the first time, the material is being released in Europe on CD. CIRCUS was formed in 1972 in Basel, evolving from a ten-piece big band exploring the borders of jazz and rock. Under the new name and with a reduced lineup, they began to create a very individual model of progressive rock that defied comparisons. This was aided by their unconventional instrumentation, which excluded keyboards and electric guitar. Instead, it featured flute, saxophone, vibraphone, and a creatively processed acoustic guitar. The band's debut album, originally released in 1976, consists of five extended compositions that include lyrical vocal sections, daring solo performances, and surprising musical twists. The musicians aimed to break down unnecessary barriers and divisions between genres and sounds, resulting in a captivating, eclectic, and surprising effect until today. Elements of folk, jazz, and classic progressive rock combine into a completely new whole. "Circus" is being released in Europe for the first time on CD, remastered from the original tapes by Noah Mintz (Toronto, Canada) in 2021. The booklet includes a short essay about the music, lyrics, and unpublished photos.
